Just twenty miles or so from downtown Houston, Kemah is an action-packed destination that you don’t need to pack a suitcase to visit. Along the boardwalk, you’ll find plenty of activities for a fun day out, and you can top it off with a marvelous sunset cruise or dinner cruise out on the bay, thanks to Windward SeaVenture. Here are five suggestions that are just a few of the many things to keep you occupied during your trip to Kemah Bay.

Feed the fish

Located along the boardwalk are fish food dispensers that allow you to feed the fish for the change in your pocket. It’s a thrill to see them all come to the surface once they realize it’s time for dinner, so give it a shot and see how many show themselves to you.

Look through a telescope

There are also numerous telescopes along the docks that you can use for a small fee to watch the yachts and wildlife all along the bay. Make it a game for the entire family and see how many different types of boats and birds you can spot.

Ride a train

While you may think of sailing first when you arrive at the water, you can also chug your walk along the boardwalk on a recreation of the C.P. Huntington train dating from 1863. It’s a great way to get a quick overview of the whole bay, and when the whistle blows, you’ll be glad you got yourself a ticket to ride. Don’t pass up this one-of-a-kind activity.

See the stingrays

Next to the Aquarium restaurant is Stingray Reef where you’ll get to see stingrays up close and personal. You can even touch them and give these wonderful, mysterious creatures a snack. Once you’re done, don’t forget to check out the nearby Rainforest Exhibit to see even more amazing wildlife.
