It’s plenty hot in Houston in the summer but there is one surefire way to beat the heat, and that’s to get out on the water sailing Clear Lake and Galveston Bay with the cool breeze on your face. It’s even better to be the one commanding your yacht as you cruise around the bay. There’s nothing quite like using the elements like the wind and water currents to transport yourself from one place to another. Not knowing how to sail doesn’t have to be a roadblock when Windward SeaVenture is here to give you sailing lessons that will have you captaining your vessel like a pro in no time. Our certification classes are recognized by the American Sailing Association (ASA), so you know you are in good hands with our experienced captains who look forward to showing you the ropes.

Testing the waters

Even if you have no sailing experience, we offer uncertain beginners our 3-hour ‘Intro to Sailing’ course that has no prerequisites. One of our captains will take you aboard a 22-foot sailboat and go over all the basics and the principles of handling a sailboat. This non-certified class is the perfect way to find out if sailing is right for you without investing too much time or money.

Comprehensive beginner and refresher courses

If you already know that you are serious about learning to sail or are trying to get back in the habit, our ASA 101 Basic Keelboat class for first-time sailors or rusty sailors who need a refresher will get you well on your way. This two-day course with no prerequisites will teach you self-sufficiency when out on the water. You will learn in one of our 28-31 foot pocket cruisers which will help prepare you for our more advanced classes.

Advanced courses

Once you have your basic skills under your belt, there’s no limit to how far you can go with our advanced certified classes. Our combined ASA 103 & 104 class will teach you about coastal cruising as well as bareboat chartering, giving you all the knowledge you need to embark on a coastal cruise. After that, you can learn advanced navigation and cruising, and even master the art of cruising catamarans, docking, and performing your own engine maintenance.
